From conception to the grave
My mother’s silent pains amplified by my forefathers excruciating screams are forever engrained in my DNA
Loud & painful punctuated by the spasms of hope
It hurts, it’s been hurting America
Generational tears, sweat, & blood streaming in tribulation & agony
It hurts, it’s been hurting America
The unspeakable curable pandemic makes it a crime to express my blackness
Choked by the ISMS my success is void
It hurts, it’s been hurting America
My reasoning turns into rage
My progress into pain
Psychologically chained my smile hurts
It hurts, it’s been hurting America
Look around! The discrimination & denigration at dizzying heights
Deliberate & dangerous the deaths are alarming
Implicit bias & privilege the order of the day
It hurts, it’s been hurting America
Freedom I deserve, my rights I demand
Incarceration & Death I’m rewarded
Revenge I never seek
Retaliation & attack I get
It hurts, It’s been hurting America
